About Ryan:
From a young age Ryan has been interested in what goes into creating a film, a TV series and a theatrical production. This interest became his career choice. Since about the age of 11 Ryan has wanted to be a director.
Ryan joined stage Stage ‘65 in September 2006 after being part of that year’s summer production of The Odyssey. As he didn’t have the confidence to act and the experience to direct, he decided to get involved with the stage management side of theatre. His first Stage ‘65 production, as a member, was The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Since then he has been involved with the National Theatre Connection’s production of Red Sky and Salisbury Playhouse’s The Boyfriend and The Little Prince. He continued to do the summer productions at Salisbury Arts Centre, Grimm’s Tales and this year’s The Tales of King Arthur.
In November 2007 Ryan was presented with the Enrichment Award in Film Studies and the Salisbury Chamber of Commence Certificate. Also that year, Ryan joined Totton College and began studying the BTEC National Diploma is Multimedia (Film & TV). In December 2007 Ryan wrote and directed a horror film trailer called Head Trip.
In 2008 Ryan started work on new projects. He co-directed a music video for the band No-Man, for their song My Rival Trevor, it was very well received and has nearly reached 1000 views on youtube. It also starred his younger Brother, Joseph Cooper, who will be joining Stage 65’ in September 2008.
In June Ryan entered Salisbury Arts Centre’s 48 hour film challenge and assistant directed a mockumentary called The People Who Save The World Every 30 Seconds, which notably Oliver Malam starred in. Though it won no awards, it was given great comments by Antony Batchelor from City-Eye, Southampton.
Just two weeks after that, Ryan entered another 48 hour film challenge as part of Totton College. He, along with 8 friends, entered a 1950s based gangster film A Man’s World, of which Ryan was producer and casting director. They came 2nd out of 8 short films that entered. The film starred Joz Norris and Oliver Malam of No Answer.
The Future:
Ryan is currently writing a small production for children with Oliver Malam, which is hoped to be given to Stage ‘65. He is also in the planning stages of writing a musical with Joz Norris.
Ryan also has upcoming film work such as a music video for the band, The Kids Next Door and a documentary project at college.
Ryan finishes college and Stage ‘65 in June 2009. He is in the middle of deciding whether to continue on to university to study writing and directing for film, TV and theatre, or take a gap year, gain more experience in theatre and have more time to write.
